Course
Description:
Systems
approach to the management, analysis and design of systems for the
collection, storage, treatment, transport and utilization of
livestock manure and organic wastes wastewaters applied to
agricultural land.
Objectives:
1. To familiarize students with the physical,
chemical and biological properties
of livestock
manure, industrial and municipal wastewaters
and residuals, and organic wastes on the
environment.
2.
To develop the student’s abilities to analyze
and design systems for the collection,
handling, treatment and utilization
of manure
and organic wastes.
3.
To expand and reinforce the student’s education
in his/her major of study through a semester
project in the area of manure and
organic waste management.
Class
Format:
One
3-hour lecture per week (Tuesday 6:00-
9:00 p.m. MT, 5:00-8:00
p.m. PT.
Course will
be broadcast via compressed video
from the Twin
Falls
Research and Extension Center to the
University of Idaho campuses in Boise
and Moscow .

Homework:
Homework
will include problems that require careful calculations and good
written communication, and will be graded on both attributes.
Homework is due the week after it is assigned, unless denoted by the
instructor. If students are confused by a homework
question, first - contact the instructor, second - discuss it with
your peers, and third - make an assumption, write down why it was
made and complete the problem. Exams are open book.
The enhancement project will include grades for your written work,
class presentation and peer questions.
